Anthropic launches Claude Design, its new AI-powered collaborative visual creation tool

Anthropic just introduced Claude Design, a new product from Anthropic Labs that promises to change the way teams create, explore, and deliver visual work with the help of artificial intelligence. The tool lets you collaborate directly with Claude to produce polished designs, interactive prototypes, presentations, one-pagers, and much more — all within a conversational flow that already feels familiar to anyone using the platform.

The new feature is available in research preview for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plan subscribers, with access included within each subscription’s usage limits. If you need to go beyond those limits, you can enable the extra usage feature directly in your plan settings. For Enterprise organizations, Claude Design comes disabled by default, and admins need to enable it in the organization settings.

Behind everything is Claude Opus 4.7, Anthropic’s most advanced vision model to date, which already says a lot about the level of quality and precision the tool can deliver. The rollout to users is happening gradually throughout launch day 🚀

The problem Claude Design solves

Even experienced designers have to ration their creative exploration phase. There’s rarely enough time to prototype a dozen different directions, so most people settle for a handful of options before moving on. For those without a design background — founders, product managers, marketing professionals — the situation is even trickier. Turning an idea into something visual and communicable remains a real barrier in many teams’ day-to-day work.

Claude Design steps into exactly that gap. It gives designers room to explore more broadly, and for everyone else on the team, it offers a real path to producing visual design without depending on other people. The process starts simple: you describe what you need and Claude builds a first version. From there, refinement happens through conversation, inline comments, direct content edits, or even custom sliders that Claude itself creates so you can adjust visual parameters in real time.

And there’s one detail that makes a huge difference for larger teams: when you grant access, Claude can automatically apply your team’s design system to every project, ensuring the final result is visually consistent with the rest of your company’s materials.

What Claude Design actually does

In practice, Claude Design works as a creative partner that understands both language and visual composition. You describe what you need — it could be a landing page layout, a campaign banner, an interface concept, an onboarding flow, a pitch deck — and the tool interprets that request with a level of context that goes way beyond simply generating a generic image. Claude Opus 4.7 reads the brief, considers visual hierarchy, palette, typography, and the purpose of the piece before delivering any result. That means the output already arrives with built-in design logic, not just pixels thrown on a screen.

Another point that really sets the tool apart is its ability to iterate within the conversation. Unlike tools that generate something and end the cycle right there, Claude Design maintains session context, allowing you to refine, adjust tone, change structure, or request variations without starting from scratch every round. For anyone working with fast prototyping — whether to validate an idea internally or present something to a client — this continuous flow makes all the difference in delivery time and the quality of proposals that make it to the table.

The tool can also analyze existing images as references. You can upload a visual example, ask Claude to understand the style, structure, or tone of that material, and use it as a starting point to create something new with visual coherence. This multimodal reading capability — text plus image — is exactly what makes Claude Opus 4.7 so relevant in this context, because it doesn’t treat text and image as separate pieces of information, but as parts of a single creative brief.

Use cases already in action

Teams that got early access to Claude Design are already using the tool in several ways. Anthropic highlighted a few key scenarios that showcase the product’s versatility:

  • Realistic prototypes: designers can turn static mockups into interactive prototypes that are easily shareable for collecting feedback and running user tests, without needing code review or pull requests.
  • Wireframes and product mockups: product managers can sketch out feature flows and hand them off to Claude Code for implementation, or share them with designers for additional refinement.
  • Design explorations: designers can quickly create a wide range of creative directions to explore.
  • Pitch decks and presentations: founders and sales executives can start from a simple outline and arrive at a complete, brand-aligned deck in minutes, then export as PPTX or send it to Canva.
  • Marketing materials: marketing professionals can create landing pages, social media assets, and campaign visuals, then loop in designers for the final polish.
  • Frontier design: anyone can build prototypes with voice, video, shaders, 3D, and AI integrated directly into the code.

How the workflow works

Claude Design follows a natural creative flow, broken into stages that connect seamlessly. Here’s how each part of the process works:

Your brand, integrated from the start

During onboarding, Claude builds a design system for your team by reading your codebase and existing design files. Every project created after that automatically uses your colors, typography, and components. You can refine the system over time, and teams can maintain more than one active design system simultaneously.

Import from anywhere

You can start from a text prompt, upload images and documents in DOCX, PPTX, and XLSX formats, or point Claude to your codebase. There’s also a web capture tool that lets you grab elements directly from your site, making prototypes look like the real product.

Refine with detailed controls

Comment inline on specific elements, edit text directly, or use adjustment sliders to modify spacing, color, and layout live. Then ask Claude to apply your changes across the entire design at once.

Collaborate with your team

Designs have organization-scoped sharing. You can keep a document private, share it so anyone in your organization with the link can view it, or grant edit access so colleagues can modify the design and chat with Claude together in a group conversation.

Export wherever you want

Share designs as an internal URL within your organization, save as a folder, or export to Canva, PDF, PPTX, or standalone HTML files. The export flexibility is a strong point, especially for teams that need to deliver materials in different formats depending on the audience.

Direct handoff to Claude Code

When a design is ready for implementation, Claude packages everything into a handoff bundle that you can pass to Claude Code with a single instruction. This eliminates a good chunk of the friction that normally exists between the design stage and the development stage.

Anthropic also announced that in the coming weeks, it will make it easier to create integrations with Claude Design, allowing you to connect it to more tools that teams already use day to day.

What partners are saying

Some companies that already tested Claude Design shared their initial impressions, and the feedback is pretty encouraging.

The Canva team highlighted their long-standing partnership with Anthropic and their shared focus on simplifying complex things. According to them, the integration allows ideas and drafts created in Claude Design to be brought into Canva seamlessly, where they become fully editable and collaborative designs, ready to refine, share, and publish.

Brilliant, known for its complex interactions and animations, reported that prototyping that kind of content had always been painful. However, Claude Design’s ability to turn static designs into interactive prototypes was a game-changer. Pages that required more than 20 prompts in other tools needed just 2 prompts in Claude Design. Including design intent in handoffs to Claude Code made the transition from prototype to production much smoother.

The Datadog team commented that Claude Design made prototyping dramatically faster, enabling live design during meetings. They went from a vague idea to a functional prototype before anyone even left the room, with the result staying true to brand and design guidelines. What used to take a week of back-and-forth between briefs, mockups, and revision rounds now happens in a single conversation.

Why Anthropic bet on this direction

Anthropic has been building its reputation on models that balance performance with alignment and safety, and the move into the visual design space with Claude Design is no accident. The market for AI-assisted creative tools has grown significantly over the past two years, but most of the available solutions still treat design as an isolated process, disconnected from teams’ actual workflows. Anthropic identified that gap and decided to tackle it with a proposal that puts collaboration at the center — not as an extra feature, but as the foundation of everything.

The idea is simple and powerful at the same time: if Claude is already used by teams to write, analyze data, structure strategies, and solve complex problems, why not expand that same collaboration environment to visual work? It makes sense to keep everything within the same ecosystem, especially for companies on the Team or Enterprise plan that already have established workflows with the tool. Claude Design doesn’t arrive as a separate product you need to learn from scratch — it fits into the conversational logic that Claude users already know well, which significantly reduces the adoption curve.

Tools we use daily

Another important factor is the timing. The market is increasingly demanding when it comes to prototyping speed, especially at startups, agencies, and product teams operating on short development cycles. Launching something right now, with a model as robust as Claude Opus 4.7 under the hood, positions Anthropic strategically in a segment that still doesn’t have a dominant consolidated player.

Who benefits and how to make the most of it

The list of people who can benefit from Claude Design is much broader than it might seem at first glance. Graphic and product designers gain a tool to expand creative exploration without needing to open five different tabs, test three separate tools, and still not reach the directions they wanted to explore. With Claude Design, you can generate multiple visual concepts in minutes, compare different approaches, and walk into meetings with concrete material for discussion — instead of slides full of text describing what could be done.

For non-technical profiles, the impact is even more direct. A founder who needs to present a product concept to investors, a PM who wants to communicate a feature idea to the engineering team, a marketing professional who needs a quick visual to test a campaign — all of these cases fit perfectly into Claude Design’s value proposition. The barrier between having an idea and being able to show that idea visually has always been high for people who don’t master visual design tools. This tool starts to tear down that wall in a practical and accessible way, within an environment many professionals already use daily.

It’s also worth thinking about how to integrate Claude Design into existing prototyping workflows. It doesn’t need to replace Figma, Sketch, or any other tool in the design stack — it can work really well as an earlier stage for exploration and direction-setting before the team moves on to refinement and final delivery. Using Claude Design for the concept and specialized tools for execution is a combination that makes a lot of sense, especially for teams that value speed without sacrificing quality. Collaboration between humans and AI, in this context, isn’t about replacement — it’s about expanding what each side can do. 🎨
